About Amanda

WHO I AM:

Graduate of Syracuse University S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications working in communications, media relations and strategic planning.

Ideally, I would like to utilize my communications experience and skills to contribute and manage client projects, support internal communications platforms, and cultivate relationships with media outlets. I want to collaborate with team members to produce meaningful results for my company and promote innovative thinking that will change the industry. I believe that being a valuable contributor is about asking the right questions and finding solutions to today’s challenges.

EXPERIENCE:

I am a graduate of S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a major in public relations and minor in English and Textual Studies who graduated in May 2013. I was the Vice President of Public Relations for the Panhellenic Council at Syracuse University.  I was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America as well as Hill Communications, a student-run public relations firm.   My educational background spans from graphic design to science and technology to textual studies.  I enjoy networking, blogging, social media, yoga, hiking, cooking, sports, and writing. I am from The Berkshires, Massachusetts.

As a PR student and young professional, I am interested in the ways in which public relations functions in various industries. My blog is about social media, innovative campaigns, media relations, news and much more. I am interested in public relations, branding, media relations and corporate communications.

MY STORY:

As I have grown up, my passion for writing and communications has led me to pursue a career in public relations.  I strive to be a leader by sharing my vision with others. I am a very hard working individual who enjoys new challenges that push my cognitive abilities and allow me to develop new skills. I strive to continue learning. I believe we can never know enough about the industry we work in, the people we interact with, or the world we live in.  I have been blessed with a variety of work and internship experiences in various industries that have grown me as a person and a professional. For me, it is all about “knowing a little bit about a lot.” For this reason, I would thrive in a team-setting, working on multiple clients projects, and becoming an expert on their brand and their industry. I make the most of every experience by learning as much as possible. I value hard work and measurable results. That being said, I care about doing my immediate work as well.

I solidified my interest in the public relations during my internship experience at L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, where I supported the Assistant Dean of External Relations. During the summer of 2012, I had an article published in the fall issue of the college’s magazine, multiple articles published on the website, numerous press releases distributed to local media and an article published in the S.U. Daily news. In order to develop my stories, I conducted interviews with students and faculty to discuss their research projects. This required a large amount of preparation on my part in order to understand the language and science behind their research in everything from textiles to robotics to polymers. I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about alternative energy sources, development of medical devices, waste management, clean water initiatives, and more.  I wanted to learn more about the topics to understand their significance completely. The college’s students and faculty are doing such meaningful work; I realized I wanted to work for a company that’s work would improve people’s quality of life. As the P.R. intern for L.C. Smith, I also attended Syracuse University’s communications conference and multiple L.C. Smith events. I developed web content and media lists to support the college’s strategic plan.

My long-term goal is to work as a strategic public relations professional and business consultant, perhaps in my own communications consulting or public relations firm.

I am passionate about making a difference in my community.  I volunteer at various local organizations and served as the philanthropy coordinator of my sorority. I chose to represent organizations that reflect my personal commitment to being socially responsible.
